Northeast direction is the most important place of your house. This space is not just about having a Mandir / Altar place / Pooja space in the Northeast but this direction being the power supply of the positive and cosmic needs to be utilized in the best way. When this zone is clean and balanced it reduces a lot of stress in the house and helps with creating positive vibes.

The best location for placing a temple in the house or meditation room is the Northeast zone followed by East / North zone. While Southeast and south directions can be considered for worshipping Durga ma and Hanumanji in the mandir.

For a house with multiple floors, the higher floor is best for keeping mandir.

While Praying or meditation facing East is suggested but facing west inclines us towards spiritual knowledge is considered beneficial for learning meditation.

Mandir or pooja space in our homes should not have too many idols, having one idol is considered best. Do not have multiple idols of the same kind of gods. Keeping an invoked idols in our temples at home is highly recommended for beneficial reasons.

Wooden Mandir is considered best for residential use. Marble temple inside the homes is not preferable because marble stores the negative impressions as compared to its use in commercial temples since it is open to sky it negates these impressions.

Keep a mangal kalash, which consists of a Copper pot/ kalash filled it with 3/4 level of water, add 5 coins, 1 supari to the kalash with placing an inverted coconut with the tail facing upwards on it place it in the Northeast corner of the house. It’s a symbol of prosperity and abundance. Best days to keep this is on a Tuesday or Friday as these days are devoted to the Devi element. Change its water weekly or every Tuesday or Friday. Sprinkle this water in all rooms to purify and energize the rooms & put the rest to plants.

Adding an invoked Shree Yantra / Meru is very powerful for adding healing energies, prosperity, abundance and success when placed in the Northeast direction inside a temple on a red colored cloth.

Some people enjoy doing pooja, others like to read holy books, while some prefer to meditate or recite the mantras. Whatever you enjoy to do, spend time in this Northeast zone of the house. Spending at least 15 mins in this direction helps in experiencing mesmerizing results.

Avoid keeping a temple in the master bedroom. If there is a need to keep it in the required direction which falls in the children's or guest bedroom, make sure to use a separator or partition to enclose this sacred space to maintain its purity and energy level at its best.

The temple inside the house should always be well lit, clean, clutter-free and have open space around. Do not keep in the center of the house.

Do not keep ancestors' pictures in the mandir, meditation room or temple space because when we light a lamp in this space it is a symbol to invoke the divine energies. But when we light a lamp daily in front of our ancestors we are invoking them as well interrupting their journey of ascension which in turn creates hurdles in our day to day lives. To pay respect to them we should keep them in our memories, we should choose to do charities in different ways in their name secretly to seek their blessings. This helps in their ascension to proceed ahead without being called back and held in time.

Do not keep your temple in the kitchen for various reasons. If there is a need to keep in the kitchen, make sure it’s covered or enclosed in a cabinet. Do not keep it close to the sink area or above the sink due to different kinds of food that we use in the kitchen as well as hygiene reasons. Place it with love, respect, and care so that we get positive vibes, not negative ones. Avoid having steps set up for the idols and photo frames in the mandir. Keep them all at the same level.

Effects of the placing temple/ pooja room / meditation room in different directions in our homes.

Northeast / East / North are the ideal directions for having the pooja or meditation room. Northeast attract cosmic energy, so when we meditate here in this zone of the house it calms our minds and connects us with the higher energy easily with simple techniques and consistent practice.

Northwest direction is another location to consider for planning a meditation room on the floor plan of the house, as it promotes good healing results and connection with higher energies comes easily in this space as well.

West direction is an average and last direction for the location of pooja room. But if it is used only for meditation then it should be okay to utilize this space.

Southern/ Southeast/ Southwest/ center of the house is not a recommended option for creating a meditation or pooja room as per Vedic Vastu Shastra guidelines. It creates a pitra dosh and Vastu dosh or defect which creates hindrances in finance, growth, stability and health problems. Some case studies have shown extreme cases of accidents, injury, and other major losses.
