Impact of Vastu Shastra in daily lives
"Vastu" is a Sanskrit word, which means our residing space, this ancient Vedic art of studying the science of architecture is termed as Vastu Shastra or Vastu Vidya. This was mostly used in temple architecture in India during ancient times to create them as energy centers filled with peace and prosperity. With modernization and space limitation people started building multi-stored apartments and skyscrapers giving more attention to the design aspect rather than the balance of natural elements aspect to achieve harmony in the space. We spend almost 1/3 of our lives in a house, not knowing what it contributes to us as an individual.

Considering Vastu Shastra in today's technology equipped times, it is the study of directions, sub-directions, radio frequency, electromagnetic energy of the earth which affects the human mind, body, eventually the home and finally the soul. This is a study related to a calculative art based on the planning of the floor plan of the house with respective directions. Since these directions are fixed, they do not change so their attributes also remain the same, for instance, the solar energy received from the East direction will always be same no matter what country we stay, we will receive the benefits of Sun and light from the respective direction. This Vedic study gives us much deeper understanding for the floor plan of the house or office or apartment, with respect to the elemental knowledge of directions and its relationship with space where we spend most of our life with our family and loved ones.
As our physical body is a home for our soul to stay, to complete its journey from finite to infinite overcoming all the positive and negative incidents of life. Our home conditions and supports our body to complete its journey of life with achievements, fame, success, and peace creating a balance of materialistic goals, growth, ascension, and spiritual goals. Everything is connected and has a connection in life which is connected to every action we take in life today. It becomes very important to understand this process and the reasons affecting them which makes one person a master in knowledge, wisdom, finances and social status while another man might just be able to fulfill his daily needs.
Our house is like an external extension of our personality which represents the choices and approach in life which resembles the energy to the placements of decor and the rooms we choose in our homes.
We may feel Vastu Shastra is just related to the house we stay or office place we work or our business space, but it’s much more beyond it. Sometimes we walk into a home and we feel welcomed, mesmerized, calm, soothing, healed while other homes make us feel exhausted and drained, this is all because of the balance or imbalance in natural elements of that space. Some people simply flourish in life because their natural elements in those houses are balanced while few others keep struggling most of the time, after all the possible efforts they do not achieve their goals. Have you come across such observations? Well, there are a lot of reasons to feel this difference and one of the major reasons is the house, where we stay and get charged and energized on a daily basis. We gain energy when we are parallel to the earth, which means when we are sleeping in our space, that's our home, our bedroom. This energy which we gain during our sleep time is then utilized through the day, if we are using the right directions while sleeping, we get a night of sound sleep, feel energized when we wake up and are in good mood. On the other hand, sleeping in wrong directions make us feel the opposite and tired. The balanced energy of the house helps us live a healthy, happy, content, meaningful and successful life. Finally, it is the space of balanced energies and elements which can help us achieve our dreams by making us passionate about goals by creating a supportive environment to achieve them.
For me, home is the place where we stay with our physical, mental and emotional attachments. Physical attachments represent our assets or physical achievements in life, mental attachments refer to our mental health and spiritual inclination and lastly emotional attachments which are social friends and family bonding in terms of different relationships. The house of an individual plays a very important role in these various aspects of attachments in an individual’s lifetime. We might change houses due to work or other reasons, but every house plays a specific role in your life, which might be positive or negative or just neutral. To conclude, Vastu Shastra might be an old school concept but has a perfect guide to help us to get a better and meaningful life for its followers.
